The lighting for this lamp is good, and a bit different than other lamps. It is decidedly white, and although they advertise "natural light" I don't get that sense when I turn this on to use it. Still, for me it hurts my eyes less than some of the decidedly yellow lights that many desklamps use, and that I can appreciate if I have to go into a study session over a number of hours. This thing is quite large and a bit bulky. It doesn't take up that much space but it is very noticeable on your desk. Also, the button for the power is very finicky, and needs to be pressed in quite a bit to trigger the lamps's activation. This is annoying because you can't just use a finger and push it in without also pushing your lamp off it's position....every time I use this I have to use one hand to hold the lamp and the other to push the button in far enough for it to turn on/off.On the brighter side upon buying this, I thought it would tip over a lot given how it looks but it has never done that since I bought it. In reality I'd give this a 3.5 if I could, and overall it's a solid purchase...if you like the way it looks, it's worth a buy, but the finicky power switch and bulkiness does drop it a bit in my view.I use this desk lamp at work in my cubicle. Although, my cubicle is next to a window, I like having the additional bright light for reading small print.1. The light is definitely bright enough for reading / working needs2. Aesthetically, it looks nice3. I would not recommend this lamp if you are petite. When I sit at my desk with the lamp pointed in my direction, the bright bulb can be seen and is very distracting while I am looking at my monitor. Since the lamp is not height-adjustable, my work-around is to prop up the back of the base with a pen and post-it pad, which angles the top of the lamp forward enough to not shine in my eyes.4. The on/off switch is very hard to push in. You cannot do it with only one hand. You need one hand for holding the lamp still as you use the other to push the button. Suggestion to OttLite: put the switch on the base of the unit so that you need to push down, not forward. Conclusion: With the propping workaround and price tag of less than $30, overall, I'm satisfied. It's a nice looking lamp that gives off natural feeling, bright light. It focuses that light on the desk and can be used in the same room as computers and TVs without creating a lot of glare or disturbing others. It is a fixed design, so there's no adjustability of angle or height, so you should buy this for certain uses only (we use it on two desks, and my father uses his as a beside lamp, and both are very satisfactory for us). The one thing I wish they had designed differently is the on/off button, which is an oval that's small enough in the vertical dimension to make it difficult to depress the button from certain angles or with certain fingers. Plus, one needs to hold the lamp still while pressing the button or else the lamp slides away from your finger or thumb. Both these issues would resolve with a large round button that was pressed downward instead of horizontally.I was in need of a desk lamp during finals week after my 6-year-old one went out. Found this on Amazon and was interested because of its design and the advertised quality of light. When I plugged the bulb in and tried turning it on the first time I thought it wasn't bright enough (that was during the day), but by the time the evening came in and I turned it on to use for real it was very bright and useful.Only two down sides: 1) it's shorter than I thought it would be, and so the curved design actually limits the light into a confined pool under the bulb (you have to put things directly underneath the lamp in order for more light to hit it; but you could probably just set it on a block or book or something); 2) the power button is pretty stiff and is situated vertically (instead of most desk lamps where it's horizontally on the base) so you'd need to hold the whole thing in order to press it.All in all, it does what it should as a desk lamp and is great for reading and desktop work. Aside from two minor points, it's really a nice desk lamp with a sleek design, and much cheaper on Amazon (hopefully it'll last at least another 6 years, which would make it worth the money).I really do like the light this desk lamp puts out. My only complaint is the same as others have mentioned... the switch! You have to push the button really hard to turn it off and on. Fortunately for me, the back of the light is against the window ledge, which prevents it from sliding when trying to turn it off and on. Overall, a very nice product.UPDATE: While looking for a replacement bulb (just to have one on hand), I discovered that the type "A" bulb that is listed in the Amazon product description (and recommended as a companion purchase) is NOT what my lamp uses!! Mine requires a type "E" bulb, which has an electronic ballast. Double-check the type of bulb that came with your lamp before ordering a replacement... the bulbs are pricey so be sure you're getting the correct type!!UPDATE 2: Well sadly, only a matter of days after the 2-year warranty expired, it died! The aforementioned difficult switch stopped working altogether rendering it totally useless!! I'm very disappointed... for the price, I expected it to last much longer than 2 years!!I was very disappointed with this product when I discovered it could not be used in the UK, even when I wrote to them asking if it was suitable to use they said it was and sent me an adaptor plug which couldn't be used either as you require a completely different unit to change the voltage upwards from USA to UK voltage. I now have a beautiful lamp I cannot use unless I want to spend another £60 upwards for the voltage adaptor, which I don't! Instead, I did what I should have done initially and ordered from a UK supplier of Ottlite lamps for an extra £10. The only reason I gave this seller any stars is because they refunded me very quickly and we're very polite and fair about the refund.Bought it for our 6-yr old for his bedroom, where he builds lego, draws, etc. He loves it, and (therefore :-) we love it too. Seriously, a great relaxing full spectrum light, relieves eye strain, and probably also delivers anti-SAD benefits.very satisfied,,,it meets all my reading needs.thank you.JeanneSwitch broken in 5 months!
