Grommets are okay. Here's sort of the problem: they don't sit down very far in the hole. The sides of the grommet that slide down into the hole don't go down very far. I'm sure they designed it this way for a reason but it doesn't seem to sit down in the hole far enough to be anchored solidly. What does counter this is how heavy they are which helps to give them not only a quality feel but seated firmly. Nevertheless, if I pull on a cable a bit for more slack or to adjust something the whole grommet starts to come out. I cut the hole with a name brand drill bit of the size recommended and it fits well. I remedied the problem of getting a firm seat by wrapping electrical tape around the part that goes in the hole a couple times. It is just enough to help is sit a little more thickly in the hole and compress against the sides. The finish is beautiful.I bought the 5-pack of these desk grommets. 3 of them had a great finish, no problems.1 was badly dinged, which appears hard to do with these as they are pretty thick metal, and had a lot of scuff marks on the surface and underneath. Another had minor surface scuff marks but was in decent shape. This is surprising since they come in individually sealed foam envelopes inside a larger padded envelope. My guess is this is a factory processing issue. Apparently they need better quality control on items going out the door.Overall I am happy with the purchase but it is easy to see how the quality of the items received is purely "luck of the draw". I could imagine getting a package with only 1 or 2 usable grommets. Spending $5 EACH for a grommet like this is obviously a specialty purchase and they are purchased for APPEARANCE. Attention to detail needs to be MUCH HIGHER when spending over 5x as much on a product where you can get a plain black plastic grommet at Lowes for $1 or less. The product itself looks to be decent quality, but they will be going back for two reasons.1) No inner ring. This is partially my fault for not noticing in the description, but I hadn’t ever seen one sold without an inner ring so I didn’t think someone would ever sell one. Without that, your cables or desk will get torn up, and you will see the inside desk material (see attached picture).2) It isn’t 2.5 inches, and that’s why they are ultimately going back. I cut a 2.5 inch hole, it doesn’t fit at all tight. Measuring it, this is actually more like 2 3/8 diameter. If you want to use a 2 3/8 hole saw then it might work ok, but I have two holes in my desk now so these won’t work.I used the desk grommet in the bookcase headboard of our new bed. It works perfectly. The smaller opening is perfect for our alarm clock cords. The only problem was that I din't have a hole saw to match this hole size. I had to cut the hole to the closest size and use a wood file to enlarge the hole so the grommet would fit perfectly. These are nice heavy grommets. I bought the brushed nickel grommets to go on a large bombay mahogany stained desk I just built for myself (32"x80"). The look contrasts very well with the dark glossy desk and is 1000x better than plastic grommets! The inside ring of the grommets is 2.5" in diameter and I drilled using a 2.5" hole saw bit and it fits perfectly.I ordered a pack of 5 and they each come individually wrapped. One had a minor scratch on the top but its not really noticeable and I only needed 3. Using the other 2 for an older beat up desk anyway. These do not fit a 1.5 inch hole. They are 40 mm. A 40 mm or 1 91/16 hole saw is required for a snug fit or 1 5/8 hole for easy removal. The grommets are fine and look good when installed.I ordered 5 of the grommets for the 4 holes I needed to fill in my new office. As it turns out, one of the five had a cut or scratch on the face - but the other 4 were perfect, So it all worked out okay. The grommet itself is high quality. Note that you will need to use a non-standard hole saw (I was hoping my 1 1/2" dia bit would work, but it's too small)
